A strip mall in Nanuet is being knocked down in order to make way for a new hotel.
The Rockland Plaza mall on Route 59 is scheduled to be demolished late next year.
The town of Clarkstown says a five-story hotel will be built in its place.
Officials say the new 123-room hotel, located right off the New York State Thruway, will bring in additional business and pay more property and school taxes for the town.
A number of shops currently located in the plaza are now working with the landlord to find new locations before their lease is up.
The town says more change is coming to Nanuet. It says it plans to repurpose and redevelop a number of stores in the area to bring in more revenue for Rockland County.
The town says the new hotel is expected to open in early 2020.
