It's National Coffee Day!
For coffee lovers, there are deals to be had at Starbucks and Dunkin'. But get them while they last because higher prices are brewing.
"You know I can't get through my day without it," said Aaron Araujo from Westport.
The National Coffee Association says two-thirds of American adults drink coffee every day – more than any other beverage. Every American coffee drinker consumes on average three cups per day.
"I think it gives us energy. Also, I think it brings us together as people,” said Starbucks worker Wes Bouchia. “We gather round, we have a cup of coffee, we talk, we have conversations, we have first dates, we have business meetings, we have interviews. So, I think coffee kind of surrounds our culture with just a lot of togetherness and community."
The Bureau of Labor Statistics says coffee prices jumped 20% last month from the year before. More competition, inflation and consumer shifts have hurt Starbucks' bottom line, forcing the company to close 1% of its stores in North America.
There are two Starbucks in Connecticut that will be closing – one in Danbury and another in Newington. But many of your favorite Starbucks stores will still be open.
