A Bronx funeral home is under scrutiny after a second family has come forward with allegations against it.
News 12 The Bronx reported Sunday about a family that lost a stillborn baby and chose to have the funeral at Ortiz Funeral Home on Westchester Avenue. However, when the child's casket was opened, the wrong baby was inside.
After watching the report, another family says it had a regretful experience with the funeral home. Eusebia Paez says that when her husband, Jack Paez, died almost two years ago, his viewing took place at Ortiz Funeral Home.
Paez says her husband's wedding bands were missing at one point. She also says plans were made to have her husband cremated, but the funeral home didn't provide an urn. Paez says, however, that she had ordered the urn months in advance.
News 12 The Bronx followed up on Paez's allegations with the Better Business Bureau and found only one complaint during the past 12 months at several Ortiz Funeral Home locations in the borough.
The New York State Department of Health, which regulates funeral homes, says it has no complaints on file against the Ortiz Funeral Home.
Ortiz Funeral Home has declined to comment on the allegations.
