A new area code is rolling out in the Hudson Valley.
Phone service providers can start ordering lines with the new 329 area code on Friday, and they will begin issuing them next year.
The existing 845 numbers will not change.
Heidi Wayman is with the North American Numbering Plan Administrator, a government contractor that provides data on phone numbers. She says the remaining 350,000 or so 845 numbers should be used up by fall 2024. That's when telecom companies can begin selling phones with the new 329 numbers.
The only real change for the community is that they will have to type in the area code when dialing any 845 or 329 number.
The New York Department of Public Services say the 329 area code is going to provide enough new Hudson Valley numbers for the next 28 years.
