The cleanup and repairs are just getting started at a New City pet shop that was closed after a smoky fire over the weekend.
"I can't thank the New City Fire Department enough," says Doug Staley, owner of the Pet Palace. "It's a volunteer department ? they're true heroes."
Staley says most of the pets inside were rescued after the fire broke out at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, though unfortunately a few birds were not saved.
