Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D) is calling for the passage of the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act, which includes an expanded child tax credit.
She says it would benefit almost 900,000 children statewide.
"How we choose to support them and their families says a lot about our nation... In the richest country in the world, no child should have to grow up in poverty."
Gillibrand says the passage of that tax deal would provide a larger credit for low-income families with more than two children, adjust for inflation, and allow taxpayers to use their income from either the current or prior year in calculations.
