A business owner in New Rochelle has pleaded guilty to failing to pay wages to six employees, according to the Westchester District Attorney's Office.
Artemio Fuerte entered his plea in New Rochelle City Court. Last March, day laborers protested over his failure to pay them, highlighting ongoing labor disputes.
As part of his guilty plea, Fuerte is obligated to pay approximately $23,000 to the workers he employed as painters, carpenters and laborers at his New Rochelle business.
Upon sentencing in July, Fuerte is expected to serve three years of probation. However, his legal issues persist. In January, he was arrested for allegedly failing to pay an additional two workers $8,000. He is scheduled to appear in New Rochelle City Court later this month to address this case.
