Frances Sternhagen, a veteran actress known for her extensive career in film, television, and theater, has passed away at her New Rochelle home at the age of 93.

Sternhagen, a long-time resident of New Rochelle, has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry during her career spanning nearly seven decades. She breathed life into various memorable roles in notable films such as "Misery," "Raising Cain," and "Julie and Julia."

Her contributions extended to the small screen where Sternhagen garnered acclaim and Emmy nominations for her performances in iconic shows like "Cheers" and "Sex and the City." Moreover, she was a force on Broadway, earning two Tony Awards for her outstanding performances.

Sternhagen's achievements were honored in 2014 when she was inducted into the New Rochelle Walk of Fame, commemorated by a sign that listed several of her celebrated roles.

The actress, whose family confirmed her passing due to natural causes in her New Rochelle residence on Monday, is being remembered for her impactful legacy. Plans for a celebration of her life are underway, scheduled for mid-January, around the time that would have marked her 94th birthday.
