A New Windsor man who was trapped inside his apartment during a fire remains hospitalized Friday.
Authorities say the man was found unconscious and not breathing inside his first-floor apartment on Kenwood Drive as flames tore through the building.
New Windsor fire officials say the man was removed from a window and CPR was started immediately while rescuers quickly worked to keep the fire from spreading throughout the building.
Fire officials say the fire started shortly after 12 p.m. and was knocked down with the help of several other area departments.
Neighbors to say other apartments were damaged but that everyone else was able to get out OK.
"There was smoke everywhere," says Noemi Martinez, of New Windsor. "The walls were all burnt. I saw when they took the gentleman. Right now, they're not sure but they're letting us go back in."
The building is boarded up, but tenants were allowed back in. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
