New York State is adding a new official state varsity sport.

Girls flag football will be recognized beginning this spring. Nearly 200 high schools throughout New York State and New Jersey will participate in girls flag football.

The league is supported by the New York Jets. The Jets will host the region's first-ever girls high school flag football media day at MetLife Stadium on Feb. 22.
