Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers are lining up to get COVID-19 tests as the number of cases surge ahead of holidays.
Demand is high and supply is short for the at-home COVID-19 tests. Added to that problem are long lines at clinics like Forme Medical Center in White Plains.
Harrison teen Aiden Wu waited for hours hoping a negative test can save his winter break.
"It's a long wait," says Wu. "It's kind of boring."
Lines to get a COVID-19 vaccine at Sunshine Pharmacy weren't great either. Julia Gale went to get a booster only to find out how bad the lines were.
"I figured I might as well get a jump start on it, but I guess everybody else is on the same page," says Gale.
Officials say nearly a quarter-million people have gotten tested statewide every day for the last week. The state also broke its own daily infections record for a fourth straight day.
Gov. Kathy Hochul is calling on the feds to invoke the Defense Protection Act to boost the at-home test supply.
The state also plans to send out 10 million home test kits statewide by mid-January.
In addition, Hochul announced a plan where people could get a free test kit sent overnight, take a self-swab, send it back to the lab with free shipping and get results within 48 hours.
