A kids club in a violence-plagued city in Orange County is giving at-risk youth an alternative to being on the streets.
There’s a little-known chess club in between the run-down buildings, graffiti and iron gates along Liberty Street in Newburgh. Anthony Muhammad, known to his students as "Brother Anthony,” takes in kids as young as 4 and teaches them how to play.
"Their minds are still pliable. We can get through to them and catch them before they get into that cycle of prison,” he says.
Muhammad has played chess since he was a child. As an adult, it's now his mission to teach anyone willing to learn.
