Students did not return to Newburgh Free Academy Friday after a shooting took place in the area earlier this week.
Cellphone video captured the frightening moments Wednesday when fist fights among teenagers turned into gunfire.
Police say the latest shootout spanned blocks on William Street and injured four teens. All of Newburgh High School's campuses have remained closed as a result.
The shooting prompted authorities to hold a news conference Friday to address the uptick in gun violence.
Earlier this month, News 12 reported on a gang assault involving a group of teens outside the Newburgh Freedom Academy where a student got pistol-whipped while his classmates watched on.
"This is frustrating for our department and the city," says Police Chief Anthony Geraci.
The incidents prompted police to report a 100% rise in gun violence with no sign of it slowing down.
