A Newburgh man being held on weapons-possession charges pleaded not guilty in a Goshen court Friday.
Robert Gooding, 51, is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with evidence and endangering the welfare of a child in connection to the death of his stepson, 10-year-old Brandon Scandrett.
Prosecutors say they have a witness who will testify Gooding disposed of the illegal handgun that killed Brandon inside their Chambers Street apartment Aug. 2.
Gooding is being held on $50,000 bail.
