Newburgh OB-GYN DWI case ends with plea, fines and sealed record
Court records show Janice Crowder pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage. The original DWI charge and other violations were settled as part of the plea.

The case against a Newburgh OB-GYN who was originally charged with DWI after police said she crashed on the way to work has now been resolved in court.
According to court documents and the City of Newburgh Court Clerk, Janice Crowder pleaded guilty April 16 to leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage.
Records show the original DWI charge and other violations were settled as part of that plea. The case was later sealed.
Crowder was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution along with a $200 fine.
News 12 first reported on Crowder’s arrest in January after State Police said troopers responded to Dubois Street in Newburgh for reports of an erratic driver. Investigators said Crowder’s Kia crossed into oncoming traffic, struck a parked vehicle and left the scene.
Police said Crowder was later found parked outside the emergency room entrance at St. Luke’s Hospital, where she had been heading to work. Troopers said she showed signs of impairment, refused a breath test and was arrested.
At the time, Crowder was listed as an OB-GYN at St. Luke’s Hospital and at Cornerstone Family Healthcare in Newburgh. Cornerstone previously told News 12 Crowder had been suspended from her duties. A spokesperson for Cornerstone now tells News 12 Crowder is no longer employed there, but declined further comment citing it as a personnel matter.
In a letter to News 12 requesting removal of the original story, Crowder’s attorney said her client disputed the allegations and maintained she was not under the influence.
Attorney Christie Gaumer wrote Crowder said the crash happened when her vehicle slid on black ice and struck unoccupied vehicles near the emergency room and doctor’s parking lot.
