Newburgh officials moved by immigrants' rally request action by Congress
Organizers of the immigrants? rally and march in Newburgh are proud of the community's united front Tuesday.
Thousands boycotted work, school and shopping and gathered to champion illegal immigrants' rights. And, according to Newburgh Mayor Nicholas Valentine, they did so peacefully, legally and without incident. In fact, city officials were so moved by the March for Amnesty that they are writing up a request for action and sending it to Congress.
Newburgh residents say they respected the marchers? cause. Rally organizers say it is just a start, but believe their message is being heard.
