News 12 retraces steps of teens who climbed onto new TZB
Video posted to YouTube appears to show three teens successfully sneaking onto the new Tappan Zee Bridge, but climbing onto the new span is not easy.
News 12 retraced the steps of their YouTube video, starting out when they drove to the Tarrytown train station.
The teens then made their way toward the Washington Irving Boat Club, walked past the boats to the fence and hopped onto the tracks.
In the video, the teens appear to walk through a wooded area to get closer to the span. They squeeze through a chain-link fence and into a construction area, which is the old police barracks in Tarrytown.
The teens then grab a ladder and climb up on to the span. An area behind an office building on Route 9 in Tarrytown is just steps away from the new bridge. News 12 spotted a ladder up against the bridge behind a fence.
While there were security cameras in place, the teens were able to get on the bridge. Police eventually spotted them though, and they were able to run away.
The first phase of the new Tappan Zee Bridge opens Aug. 25.
