Less than 24 hours after News 12 aired its special report "Suffering in Silence," viewers have been sending e-mails, calling in and commenting about hidden sexual abuse within the Hassidic Jewish community.
Many of those reacting to the story praised the courage of Shlomo Weiss, who broke the silence on years of sexual abuse he had suffered at the hands of his father. Some viewers also called on religious leaders to crack down on sex offenders whose actions have been allegedly covered about by the close-knit community.
Some viewers even wrote in sharing their own stories of sexual abuse committed by men in Hassidic communities across New York.
