People who stay up late may face a higher risk of heart disease, according to a new study published Wednesday in the Journal of the American Heart Association.

The study found people who naturally stayed up late were 79% more likely to have poor overall cardiovascular health.

Researchers also found night owls had a 16% higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease, the study said.

To help reduce the risk of heart disease, experts say night owls should work to improve sleep habits.

Experts recommend keeping sleep and wake times consistent and getting morning light exposure, according to the study.
