Since it was founded in 2011, nonprofit organization Wheeling Forward has helped nearly 120 people with disabilities regain their mobility.
Mary Ann Soto became paralyzed 23 years ago after attackers beat her senseless on her way to see her prematurely newborn son in the hospital. Since her power chair broke two years ago, Soto has been forced to use a manual wheelchair.
Wheeling Forward donated a power chair to Soto, who says her life has been changed for the better by it. Household chores are now a welcome experience, and Soto can get on an elevator without help.
She is looking forward to going back to school and working again, both of which she says would not have been possible without Wheeling Forward.
