A Rockland nonprofit is making sure Jewish-American troops don't miss out on the High Holy Days.

The nonprofit is called Kosher Troops, according to co-founder Sara Fuerst.

"We send care packages to the Jewish-American troops stationed all over the world," Fuerst said.

On Wednesday, a group of their volunteers prepared packages for about 1,000 American servicemembers who will be spending the High Holidays away from home.

"So, they're going to get your typical holiday items, honey, honey cakes...they're getting some beef jerky to give them some protein and some apples," Fuerst said.

Fuerst said the nonprofit has been sending the donations for at least 17 years as an act of kindness and gratitude.

"It's like a token of appreciation. Here at home, we appreciate what you do for us, and for all the liberties that we have to be able to have freedom of religion, freedom of whatever we have in America," Fuerst said.

The group got a little extra help on Wednesday from some former servicemembers like David Levin, who is a member of a group called Jewish War Veterans of the USA.

"Kosher Troops is terrific, they're doing a great job, especially when they're getting younger people involved and showing them what's important for our country," Levin said.

If you're a member of the military who wants to receive a package, please visit this website. https://koshertroops.com/
