School administrators in North Rockland are responding to parents' concerns about kids being forced to kneel during recess.
News 12 received calls from parents at Haverstraw Elementary School who say their kids were threatened with detention if they refused to take a knee.
The new practice is part of a new anti-bullying initiative, called the Peaceful Programs curriculum.
As a part of the curriculum, lunch monitors were trained to have students freeze in place or take a knee as a means to halt activity or call children to attention.
Some parents aren't fans.North Rockland Superintendent Kris Felicello sent out a letter to parents Tuesday saying the district has chosen to eliminate the kneeling.
Felicello says Peaceful Programs are designed to enhance learning, prevent bullying and promote positive social interactions on the playground.
