Voters in North Rockland declined today to pass their controversial school budget.
The measure failed by 360 votes.
The $197.5 million budget included between a 1.2-percent to 7.6-percent property tax increase.
Because the budget failed, the district says it will impose an austerity budget which will impose the same tax increases and force the layoffs of more than 100 staff members.
Officials say that the only major difference is that outside groups will have to pay more to use school facilities.
