A walkathon was held in North Salem Saturday to honor a teenager who was brutally murdered by her boyfriend and bring awareness to unhealthy teen relationships.

The second annual Elizabeth Butler Angel Foundation Walkathon brought more than 300 people to the streets. Elizabeth Butler was 17 when she was brutally murdered in June of 2005 by 28-year-old Ariel Menendez, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala. Menendez, who once dated Butler, was found guilty of raping, strangling and stabbing her and in July he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Butler's sister, Bonni, says her family knows the event helps to make sure others learn from their tragedy. She says there is a little piece of her sister in everyone walking at the event. The walkathon was followed up by a special presentation given by the Northern Westchester Shelter. Families were invited to learn more about the dangers of teen dating abuse.
