A federal judge says World Trade Center rescueand recovery workers could get $47.5 million from the agency thatowns the site.
Manhattan Judge Alvin Hellerstein said in an order yesterdaythat the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has tentativelyagreed to settle the claims of more than 9,000 ground zero workers.
Hellerstein is overseeing the litigation by the workers. ThePort Authority pact must still be approved by the agency's board ofcommissioners. But the judge called it "fair and reasonable."
The agency has declined comment.
The workers also are eligible for a settlement of up to $712.5million from the city, but only if 95 percent of plaintiffs sayyes.
