New York state has launched a new Web site to provide travelers with information about roads and public transportation, as well as traffic issues and service alerts.
The Web site, 511NY.org, has sections of information for people planning to drive or take mass transit. There is also a trip planner, which allows travelers to specify their starting locations and destinations, as well as what form of transportation they prefer. In addition, travelers can select the time they intend on traveling and any special requirements, like handicapped accessible routes.
The service can also be accessed via telephone by calling 511 and using an automated system to get directions or learn about traffic delays.
The Web site and phone system are updated regularly to inform users of road closures, construction, delays or other incidents that may affect travel.
