A Nyack woman is fighting to keep her husband from being deported after a battle with immigration officials that has lasted more than 10 years.

Jacquiline De Los Santos says her husband, William Martinez, came to the United States as a legal permanent resident when he was 15 years old. She says he returned to the Dominican Republic in 1999 for his father's funeral and was stopped by immigration officials when he came back to the U.S.

She says he was told it was due to a previous arrest that was a deportable offense. Martinez's family says he was driving a friend who happened to have drugs on him. Martinez received five years probation in the case and the family says he wasn?t arrested again.

The family says it hired an immigration advocate on its behalf in 2004 to file paperwork to fight the deportation, but according to immigration, no paperwork was filed.

This summer, Martinez was taken into custody by immigration officials and the family has now hired a new attorney to stop the deportation.
