A Nyack man is being praised as a Good Samaritan for rescuing a young woman who was abandoned by her friends in the cold.
On Jan. 16, David Laske, 38, says he left work at around 10:30 p.m. and was driving home when he spotted a person running barefoot across the road just beyond the border of New York State.
"It was very dark out, it was overcast," Laske recalls. "All I could see was a pair of feet...[I] couldn't even see she was there."
Laske admits he was reluctant to stop at first, but he rolled down the passenger side window and a 19-year-old girl approached the car, shaking from fear and cold.
Laske invited the North Bergen teen into the car and headed toward the nearest hospital. While he was driving, the girl told him that three of her friends pushed her out of a car and left her stranded.
The three women are now face kidnapping, assault and conspiracy charges. The owner of the car in which the 19-year-old was riding was also arrested for failure to turn over his vehicle to the police. All four suspects were released on bail.
The young woman suffered severe frostbite on both her feet.
