(AP) - Police say officers have shot and killed aknife-wielding Bronx man who threatened to kill his wife and threechildren and stabbed at officers, protected by their bulletproofvests.
Mauricio Jacques' family was rescued during the standoff around10 a.m. Sunday.
New York Police Department chief spokesman Paul Browne says the35-year-old Jacques told officers he would kill his family andswung a knife at an officer who pulled Jacques' wife free from him.
Browne says police negotiators tried to persuade Jacques tosurrender, and Jacques agreed but then lunged at two officers witha 10-inch knife.
Browne says officers fired after trying unsuccessfully to subdueJacques with a stun gun and rubber pellets.
No telephone number could be found for Jacques' apartment.
