The NYPD has kicked off a 48-hour enforcement initiative to get speedy drivers to slow down citywide.

Officers are on high alert for anyone going heavy on the gas. They say fines for speeding can range from between $90 all the way up to $600. Drivers could also receive up to 11 points on their license.

The city speed limit is 30 mph on local streets, but drivers should be aware of some new slow zones where the speed limit has been lowered to 25 mph. School zones also have a reduced speed of 20 mph.

The crackdown is all part of a major push to make all city streets safer for both drivers and pedestrians. Pedestrians and drivers agree that busy crosswalks on the Grand Concourse and Fordham Road are especially prone to accidents because of speeders.
