Police are searching for a man who they say attempted to rape a 36-year-old woman inside a building in Melrose.

Authorities say the woman was inside a building near East 151st Street and Melrose Avenue around 4 a.m. Saturday, when the man pulled her into an elevator. They say the man pulled her pants down and tried to sexually assault her before he exited the elevator and ran away.

EMS took the woman to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln, where she is expected to recover, according to police.

The NYPD captured the man on surveillance video running down the street wearing a black hooded jacket, a black hoodie with a white graphic design, light blue jeans and white and red sneakers.

Authorities say he is around 20 to 30 years old.
