Members of the Newburgh and West Point fire departments took part in a unique training exercise today.
The fearless group repelled off the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge as a part of the Orange County Rope Rescue Division's training program.
During the exercise, fellow firefighters hold the rope and while some will then be hoisted back to to the top of the bridge, others are lowered to a rescue boat waiting below.
Today's training is the first phase of the Rope Rescue Team's state and national certification process. The training will also include cave rescues, cliff rescues and any other high-angle rescue.
