Orange County officials said a 10-acre brush fire burned in the town of Monroe on Saturday.

It burned in an area that is considered to be Palisades Park land and part of the town.

Officials said they first started getting calls about it late Friday night. However, they didn't want to risk sending any people out at that time due to the terrain and dark conditions. They first started deploying crews to battle the blaze around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Six mutual aid crews helped Monroe fight the flames. Their goal is to contain the fire and keep it away from any properties or people in the area.

Orange County Fire Coordinator Vini Tankasali said one of the biggest challenges fighting the fire was the terrain.

"It's rocky, it's mountainous, it's hill area, it's also remote, so there's a lot of walking involved and carrying equipment in the woods," he said.

Tankasali said he expects his crews to fight the flames most of the day on Saturday.

A cause was not established yet as of 11 a.m. on Saturday.
