At least six people were injured in a crash involving seven vehicles - including a dump truck - in Putnam County Tuesday morning, according to state police.

State police say the crash happened along I-84 in Kent around 11:30 a.m.

Officials say the six people were taken to Danbury Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The crash shut down all eastbound traffic for hours. Around 1:30 p.m. one lane was reopened as first responders worked to clear the scene.

News 12 spoke with drivers who were being diverted off the highway several exits before the scene of the crash.

"People are so unaware of what's going on around them they drive, they got headphones on. I mean wake up people," Kent resident Camille Roca said.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
