Officials say a man who was rescued during a distressed swimmer incident in Bantam Lake has died.
They say 27-year-old Kyree Dowd, of Meriden, was pronounced dead on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
Officials said on Saturday DEEP Environmental Conservation Police along with other emergency services in the area, responded to a report of distressed swimmers at 130 North Shore Road at the Point Folly Campground around 12:30 p.m.
A 16-year-old male and Dowd were involved. Dowd went underwater and did not resurface.
According to Bantam Fire Company, the first diver entered the water at 12:48 p.m. as additional resources arrived on scene assuming the backup and standby diver roles.
Divers from Region 5 quickly located and retrieved Dowd. EMS immediately began CPR, and both swimmers were transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for medical treatment.
This incident remains under investigation as of Sunday night by EnCon Police.
