State officials are trying to determine if the death of a 21-year-old Rye Playland employee could have been prevented. Officials said Gabriela Garin, who was operating the Mind Scrambler ride Friday, was thrown to her death after strapping in some riders. On Monday, questions arose as to where Garin was when the tragedy happened. Department of Labor officials told News 12 Westchester that it's possible Garin was not on the ride at all. They said she may have been standing too close to the ride and was struck by one of the cars. As of now, Department of Labor officials said they are certain there was no mechanical problem with the ride, the death was caused by human error and it was definitely an accident. Investigators said they are still speaking to employees, sorting out different stories and looking for park patrons who witnessed the accident. Related information:
