Laurel Plains Elementary School officials say a number of rodent nests found at the school may be the cause of the sewer-like smell permeating throughout the building.

The district says nests were found in cement blocks used to support air conditioning units in the principal?s office, nurse?s office and conference room. It also says an unsealed sewer vault and stagnant storm water runoff may also be to blame.

Crews were at the school today trying to remedy the issues so students could return to the building Tuesday. The district says the nests have been removed and several drains and sewer caps are being sealed.

Officials say there will be a meeting with teachers and parents at 7 p.m. Tuesday night at Laurel Plains Elementary School.
