If you have family visiting this holiday week or if they're expected to visit sometime soon, consider taking them to a Broadway show. News 12 entertainment reporter John Bathke has picks for the entire family to enjoy.
"Peter Pan Goes Wrong" is a fast-moving physical comedy about a production of the classic story that goes off the rails. The show is scheduled to end its limited run July 23. It's just one of numerous shows that may fit the bill for a family trip to Broadway this summer.
The adventure "Life of Pi" is about a boy who survives a shipwreck along with his family's zoo animals. It features puppetry, sound effects and plenty of action with a message about overcoming obstacles in life. It's also closing on July 23.
And then there are the stalwarts of Hogwarts, "Harry Potter and The Cursed Child" - now marking five years on Broadway.
Other long-running shows include "Wicked," "Lion King" and "Aladdin" - all staples of Broadway entertainment. But these shows can sell well in advance so it’s best to plan ahead.
If you have tweens, teens and young adults included in a family outing, the fairytale storyline with a female empowerment message "Once Upon A One More Time" features songs of Britney Spears. The musical comedy opened in June.
And there’s also "& Juliet" which features pop songs in a colorful and comedic take on "Romeo And Juliet" if Juliet had lived.
