Operation Hard Hat, an effort to keep road workers safe, was in action Friday throughout state parkways.
Police officers dress up like highway workers in active work zones during the operation to catch drivers who break the law.
State police worked with the Department of Transportation to patrol the parkways.
"I am not only looking for speed because I can visually estimate that these guys are speeding, but I'm also looking for cellphones," explained DOT Highway Supervisor Don Raimo. "If you're driving looking at your cellphone doing 80 mph, 3 feet past us at times, it's a really tough situation."
Officials said thanks to Operation Hard Hat and the Move Over Law, accidents that involve workers on the roadways are down across the state.
