Schools in Orange County are seeing a surge in coronavirus cases, including one district with nearly a dozen new cases among students this week.
Letters sent to parents in Newburgh say 10 students in five schools have tested positive for COVID-19.
District parents say they do not understand why the schools are still open.
The City of Newburgh has the highest number of cases in Orange County, with nearly 2,000 positive results since the start of the pandemic, and 48 cases in schools since reopening in September.
Middletown schools are not far behind, with 30 cases since the start of school.
Just this week, that district shut down in-person learning at Maple Hill School due to new cases and the number of staff already in quarantine.
Middletown parents say despite the district's best efforts, it may not be enough to keep kids safe.
