A community has come together to mourn the death of an Orange County legislator's niece, who was killed in an ATV accident over the weekend.
Madelyn Pillmeier, 15, was killed while riding a four-wheeler with her cousin on Friday. Gabrielle Pillmeier, 12, was also on the ATV when it crashed into a power pole along Round Hill Road in Florida.
Madelyn was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center, but did not survive. Gabrielle is recovering at Westchester Medical Center after suffering a concussion and broken jaw.
The girls are the nieces of Leg. Michael Pillmeier. He says he?s grateful to the community for the outpouring of support. Flowers and messages of sympathy have been left at the scene of the accident.
Services for Madelyn will be held Wednesday in Florida. Her family says she loved to read and is asking that donations be made to a library in her memory.
