The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention held its Out of the Darkness Walk in Harbor Island Park today in Mamaroneck.
The event welcomed residents of the town to participate in the walk, access resources and support one another.
There were unity beads for those who have either lost someone due to suicide or are struggling with mental illness.
While the walk is free to attend, this year's donation goal is set at $100,000.
This year's walk chair, Sarah Ramos, emphasized the importance of community when dealing with a loss.
"You're not alone," said Ramos. "There are people out there who understand what you're going through, and they're here for you."
News 12's Lauren Del Valle was at the walk in Mamaroneck and will have more at 4 p.m.
