There was shouting and finger pointing in Elmont at Tuesday's school board meeting, as the school community demanded that a board trustee resign.
"We would not stand for this from our children, if they did something out of character and we don't stand for it from a board member." said Lynette Battle, president of the Elmont Memorial High School PTSA.
This comes after they tell News 12 that Elmont Union Free School District Board Trustee Michael Jaime said an expletive that was heard on an open microphone during a board meeting last month.
"We find it hard to believe that a leader, a so-called trustee of our school community board can make such a terrible misogynistic term towards the community and there not be any action taken." said Elmont resident Dwayne Palmer.
Parents, students and community members packed into Tuesday's board meeting, demanding to have their say about Jaime.
The meeting ran hours long and at one point, board members left because some in the crowd were shouting at them.
In a statement sent to News 12, Trustee Michael Jaime said, "Upon reflection, I, (Michael Jaime) realize that my words were inappropriate and do not reflect my true character or beliefs. I take full responsibility for my remarks.
I regret the impact of my words and understand the importance of upholding professionalism and respect at all times, whether in public or private settings, regardless of public commentary. I understand that words have power and that as a Trustee, I hold myself to a higher standard of behavior."
Elmont community members tell News 12 they plan to keep pushing the issue, until their demand is met.
