A stretch of the New York State Thruway near exit 15 in Rockland County has proven to be quite dangerous this week, with three major accidents happening less than 3 miles apart. This morning, a disabled car set off a five-vehicle chain-reaction crash in Sloatsburg. Some passengers had to be cut out of their cars to be freed, and four people were sent to the hospital. The accident also resulted in extensive delays during the morning rush. Yesterday, 20-year-old Lyssette Perez, of Middletown, lost control of her car and hit a truck parked on the shoulder of the road near Hillburn. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Earlier this week, a major collision happened between a tour bus and a tractor-trailer that sent 11 people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The crash was caused by a car leaving the Sloatsburg/Ramapo rest stop, according to police.Motorists say part of the reason they believe there are so many accidents on the Thruway is because people drive too fast and don't keep their distance.
