Schools in two districts were locked down Wednesday after someone fled from a suspected burglary in Pearl River.
Orangetown police responded to a report of three suspicious males at a Veterans Parkway address around 12:30 pm. When police arrived, they say they found two suspects in the home. According to police, one man was arrested and the other fled on foot. Cops say the man arrested had jewelry stuffed in his pockets. Police have yet to determine if there was a third suspect, possibly in a getaway vehicle.
Due to the police activity, schools in both Pearl River and Nanuet were locked down. Parents were informed of the lockdown, and police later gave the green light for students to be dismissed at regular time.
Students were let go either to their parents or an approved emergency contact. Teachers rode on buses with students to ensure adult contact. Resource officers and police assisted with students? dismissals. The Pearl River School District canceled most after-school activities
Homeowners in the area were alerted to the incident by a reverse 911 system. Police have not yet found the second suspect.
