Investigators are trying to get to the bottom of a mysterious, fragrant odor around the area of New Windsor, Cornwall and Washingtonville.
The Orange County Emergency Management commissioner tells News 12 that several residents in eastern Orange County reported the strong odor on Thursday night, and there were no complaints of illnesses.

The New Windsor town supervisor says his first thought was check with local cosmetic factory Verla International, where there was a fatal explosion in 2017.
The town supervisor says Verla did not report any spill or release.
Emergency management officials say since those calls Thursday evening, there were no odor reports overnight or Friday morning.
The Department of Environmental Conservation confirmed it is investigating and says there were no reports of emissions Thursday that would have caused this odor.

There was also a lot of chatter on Facebook about whether the odor came from the train derailment in eastern Ohio. The Emergency Management commissioner says there's been no pattern of similar odor reports coming across Pennsylvania to the Hudson Valley and that this odor is likely not from the derailment.
