The Village of Piermont is dealing with intense floods after the storm Friday morning.
Village residents are used to the floods by now. The fire department says many residents even have their own pumps to remove the water from their basements.
On Friday, residents on South Piermont Avenue needed an extra hand from the fire department.
“It’s just on the rare occasion like today when what they normally do gets overwhelmed, it overwhelms very quickly and can fill up their entire basements so that's when we come in with our larger pumps to help them out,” says Frank Bockowski, from the Piermont Fire Department.
People in Piermont are doing the most they can to prevent any damage. Gianna Murphy said she cleared out here entire basement in preparation.
Murphy’s basement is filled with water, but her house has a pump that can pump it out.
“It has been going down, there's not that much but earlier it was like a river down there,” says Murphy.
