Reshma Massarone, 40, of Pine Bush, has been sentenced to 9.5 years in federal prison for attempting to hire a hitman to kill her brother-in-law.

Massarone pleaded guilty to murder for hire after offering $10,000 to an undercover investigator, mistakenly believing him to be a hitman.

The target was her brother-in-law, who was unaware of the plot while on vacation.

The motive behind Massarone's actions remains unclear. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attempted murder.
