Section 1 Girls Ice Hockey is thriving in its third season.
Section 1 comprises of two teams: the Westchester East Green Wave and the Rockland Rockies. Both rosters are made up of student athletes from all over the region.
Skaters from 29 schools take part, with some as young as eighth grade.
Officials expect the sport to grow in the future.
“They are drawing from a lot of schools, which is great because that will just help it grow to split up into more teams. Eventually the goal is to have two teams in Westchester and two teams in Rockland,” said Section 1 girls hockey chairperson Tess Brogan.
The Westchester East Green Wave recently won the section championship and will go on to compete in the state playoffs.
