Broadway is heating up this summer with new plays and musicals scheduled to open in the coming weeks. Stars best known for their work in television comedy and shows drawn from famous movies are included in the lineup. 

"It's wildly inventive and has opportunities for invention all over it," says Jason Alexander who is directing the play "The Cottage." The "Seinfeld" star and Tony Award winner is returning to Broadway to direct (Alexander does not appear in "The Cottage") a cast that includes Eric McCormack ("Will & Grace") and Alex Moffatt ("Saturday Night Live"). Performances begin July 7. 

The biggest hit songs by Britney Spears inspire the plot of the musical comedy/fairy tale "Once Upon A One More Time." It's described as fairy tale characters who are transformed by feminist awareness. The musical is in previews with an official opening June 22. 

Great Scott! It's "Back To The Future: The Musical." Yes, based on the classic film, audiences will time travel with star Casey Likes as Marty McFly. The role is played by Michael J. Fox in the movie. Performances start June 30 at the Winter Garden Theatre.

And nearby at the Broadway Theatre, "Here Lies Love," a musical about former Filipino First Lady Imelda Marcos is in previews with music by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim.

The autobiographical solo show "Just For Us" stars comedian Alex Edelman and is about his Jewish family and his experiences facing antisemitism. It opens June 26. 

And later this summer "The Shark Is Broken,” a comedy set around the filming of the movie "Jaws" takes a bite on Broadway.
